Later on Monday, both Incarnate Word and A&M-Commerce issued apologies for the “behavior exhibited by our respective men’s basketball programs.” They acknowledged that such actions have no place in college sports and don’t represent the values of the universities or the Southland Conference.

The Southland Conference also weighed in, expressing awareness of the “end-of-game situation” and promising a close review of the footage. They emphasized that unsportsmanlike behavior is not tolerated, and the safety of everyone involved is a top priority.

Both teams are struggling at the bottom of the conference standings, each with three league wins before Monday’s game. This wasn’t the first time these teams clashed, with A&M-Commerce winning the previous matchup as well.
